How Minimalism Can Save Our Planet

The term „Minimalism“ exists in many different areas, for example music, art or language. What I am talking about is the Minimalism in living, also known as „simple living“. But how can living simple change the world, even save it? It’s simple (haha). The philosophy behind it is basically that you detach yourself from any thing that you possess. You start to reduce consumption, which means that you spend less money. Hence, less money has to be earned. In conclusion, the time spent working can be reduced as well. Moreover, you can now use that extra free time to do something that you have always wanted to do before. Or you can start volunteering and help people live a simple life, as well.

Look around in your room, apartment or house. What do you really need to live a simple, happy life? You can start by choosing one thing a day that you don’t need anymore. Put that thing into a box, which you can either donate afterwards or sell online or at a flea market. You can go through your closet as well. What clothes didn’t you wear in the past 3 years? There are enough people who could do more with these clothes right now. After sorting trough your stuff, you will see how much better you feel after a while. Possessions mean responsibilities. And the less possessions you have, the less responsibilities there are.

Living a simple life can indeed save the world. You buy less, hence, you become one more person that boycotts our consume driven world. The things that you detach yourself from, can be used as second-hand products. Overall, by doing something good for yourself, you also help our planet.
